Stretching Tech $ - e-Readers
Written by Ken Task
When it comes to purchasing devices that are dedicated to one purpose … ie, that of eReaders … it might be wise to look at the potential of re-purposing the device for future use and expanding it's purpose.
The Nook Color, as an example, has added value with it's ability to browse the web and edit Office docs (QuickOffice). Like other smart devices, however, the device is 'jailed' in that can run apps 'approved' by Barnes and Noble.

Cost a little more, but it does have a life beyond that of a restricted eReader - if one can/will modify the device.
The fact that the Nook Color is Android, means there is the possibility the device can have a future life IF the ISD decides to seek more functionality … ie, it can be rooted.

OR, get a generic WiFi only Android tablet which can use the Android Market and install Nook for Android (see below). Example, (not necessarily recommended for the faint at tech.) a 7in. Haipad cost around $150.00.
Has Android Market already installed and can use NOOK for Android - which is free.
Could save even more $ using students own smart devices.
