SOS Benefits

Our organization is the Strategic Open Source Special Interest Group with a strong emphasis on STRATEGIC. We are trying to find/build offerings for you that you can use in your existing technology infrastructure. In addition, we are trying to find/build offerings for students and teachers that work in almost any environment. However, these offerings must do more than just save money. We also want our offerings to improve learning and/or instruction.

To this end we will have some solutions, such as wikis, that students and/or teachers can use on their own with out needing any changes to the school's infrastructure or adding more the technology department's work load. With all this in mind, we have created this section to educate our friends and colleagues on the benefits of using open source.
  • Improvement of student learning
  • Improvement of instructional practices
  • Improvement of staff development
  • Improvement of staff/community communications
  • Improvement of school administration
  • Improvement of technology infrastructure and management
  • Improvement of return on investment
